Dr. Kate Newman

I’m a licensed psychologist providing telehealth services to clients across Massachusetts. I completed my doctoral degree in counseling psychology at Boston University, where I trained in cognitive behavioral, compassion-based, and parent–child therapies. I have worked in school, hospital, and outpatient settings, providing therapy and assessment in English, French, and Spanish.
Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as a journalist and researcher in Latin America, North and West Africa, Europe, and Australia. My path shifted toward psychology while writing an article about stuttering; I was struck to learn how often people who stutter carefully craft lives designed not to expose this vulnerability. I came to see how this tendency extends to many forms of difference—anxiety, depression, and ADHD, among others—and how, when we try to hide these parts of ourselves, our lives become unnecessarily small.
I love working alongside clients to make new meaning of past experiences, unlearn shaming social messages, and develop ways of living that feel more integrated and aligned.
